It's a new year, the big 2020, and as with any new year we all seem to set goals and resolutions.
Big changes we're just so sure we're going to make, all because it's a new year.
The gyms are slammed on Jan 1, because you're going to work out every day as your resolution, right?
That may happen, or it may last a couple months, or weeks, or maybe after Day 1 you change your mind!
A change or resolution doesn't have to begin Jan 1. It can begin at any point in your year, let alone your entire life!
For me, I did write down a few goals for 2020, both personal and business. I might succeed in them and I might not, and thats ok.
What's important though is setting realistic goals for yourself, then hold yourself accountable.
Maybe instead of a goal to do something daily, make that weekly or even monthly at first! It isn't worth stressing,
or feeling like you've failed yourself just because you set an unrealistic goal for the season of life you may be in.
To hold myself accountable for my own 2020 goals, i'm going to write my top 3 here, and this blog is actually one of them!
New Year Resolutions:
1) Self care
I do get massage therapy almost monthly, as I tend to get knots in my neck and shoulders from my camera and sitting in awkward positions posing newborns ect, but I want to practice self care in many more ways too. I was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism in March of last year, and i've brushed it off because I don't feel my symptoms are extreme, but it's def something I don't need to ignore as it can affect the heart and more. So that is something I want to focus on and will finally meet with an Endocrinologist to find out more.
2) Blog more, way more!
Can I achieve this? Absolutely! Will it take time and dedication? Yes! I plan to blog more this year in a variety of areas; portrait sessions, life, business ect!
3) Minimalize clutter in the home & studio
When I walk in the kids playroom, even if they've tidied up, it stresses me out. They have SO many toys and half of them they won't play with for months! Every winter we box up toys and such to donate, and the boys go with us to help carry the boxes in and we talk about why we donate things, esp before Christmas ect. I want to do this a few times a year now instead, and my new rule will be if they've not played with it for x amount of time, we sell it or donate it!
In the studio, i've done this to an extent over the last month or so and it's felt great! I have SO many props that I never use anymore as they don't fit with my brand, or I have others similar ect. I love a nice clean look, without clutter. Of course, it's a photography studio so yes there are bonnets, tiebacks, wraps, backdrops, barnwood sets, high chairs ect in the shooting rooms...but I have a vision of how i'd like it to look and i'm going to destash things I never use versus them sitting in a corner!
Ready to set your *realistic* goals for 2020?
Post them in the comments below or write them down and keep them to yourself but have them visible for you to see and hold yourself accountable!
Here's to 2020....Happy New Year!!!
